TECHNOLOGY

In order to provide optimal service to our patients and clients, we have invested and will continue to invest in the latest technologies available in veterinary medicine. Because of seamless integration, most clients will never know when a special technology is in use. Here is a list of some of the many types of technology that we use in our hospital:

IDEXX LaserCyte
-Used to run a Complete Blood Count. Click here to see a sample CBC.

IDEXX VetTest
-Used to run a full Serum Chemistry. Click here to see a sample Chemistry.

IDEXX VetLyte
-Used to test electrolytes. Click here to see a sample Electrolyte test.

Stat Spin Centrifuge
-Dramatically reduces preparation time for a sample for the VetTest and VetLyte.

Electronic Medical Records (EMR)

-All medical notes and lab work results are stored electronically. This allows quick access to and comparison of historical data. It also eliminates the confusion caused by poor handwriting and lost or misplaced records. Furthermore, it helps us maintain better inventory records and reduce loss which, in turn, reduces overhead and the consequent cost to our clients. EMR is the future of all medical professions. Atlantic Animal Hospital is one of the few veterinary practices in the United States to lead this trend.

Sedecal/VetRay Digital Radiology
-Atlantic Animal Hospital is one of a handful of veterinary practices in Central Florida to offer Digital Radiology. A staff member clicks a pedal and a digital x-ray image of the patient appears on a high resolution monitor within 6 seconds. This image can be easily manipulated to minimize the need for re-takes or additional images. Organs, bones, and other areas of interest may be measured, magnified, or isolated for a more in-depth view. Best of all, these electronic images can be sent to a specialist for review within minutes. Click here to read more and see sample images.

TonoVet
-This instrument is used to measure intraocular pressure (IOP)- corneal pressure in the eye. We use IOP to diagnose and treat many eye diseases such as glaucoma. Traditionally, veterinarians use an older instrument called a TonoPen to obtain this reading. A TonoPen has been an effective instrument for a long time but has one major drawback: it requires a local anesthetic to be applied on the eye prior to use. This anesthetic needs a moment to take effect and can adversely affect the pressure reading. The new instrument, TonoVet, does not require any anesthetic and is not painful. It allows us to both save time for the patient and client and provide more accurate readings.

Pet Portals
-This is a way for our clients to access their animal companion's wellness reminders and history online 24/7, 365 days a year. This access can be important in an emergency situation. Pet Portals features online educational videos, adjustable email reminders, pet photos, prescription requests, surveys, and online communications with our hospital staff. All that is required for this service is an email account. This and other medical and personal information is kept private. Pet Portals are offered for FREE to all of our clients. Click here to sign in or sign up for your Pet Portal now.

HomeAgain Microchips with Medical Record Retreival
-Beyond simply offering HomeAgain Microchips, we went one step further with the manufacturer by setting up a special program that allows for limited but important medical information for the patient to be available online to the client. This can be extremely helpful in an emergency situation.

Telemedicine
-The doctors at Atlantic Animal Hospital use telemedicine to work in conjunction with Cardiologists, Internists, and Radiologists. We can transmit Electro-Caridiograms (EKGs) via a telephone and send radiographs via email. This allows us to get second opinions when needed and help accurately diagnose and treat complicated disorders.

Patient Monitors
-For the safety of our patients under anesthesia, we use several medical devices to monitor vital signs such as temperature, oxygen saturation, heart rate, respiratory rate, EKG, and blood pressure.
-We also have instruments for outpatient monitoring of parameters such as blood pressure and glucose levels.
